West Coast Waves: About Us
The West Coast Waves represent WA in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and originally started under their Perth Breakers moniker in 1988. They enjoyed a successful period for many years, taking out the championship honours in 1992 and continuing their burgeoning run as regular finals contenders over the years.
In 2002 the Perth Breakers were renamed the Perth Lynx. Since then the program has produced some excellent local talent through its ranks; a testament of its capacity to develop strong, tenacious and smart basketballers. However the team haven’t made a return to their former grandeur... yet.
Enter the 2010/2011 Season.
The signing of home-grown legend and WNBA star Tully Bevilaqua was a truly impressive coup for the team. Add to that, the brand new Waves home court; one of Australia's premium basketball facilities AKA the WA Basketball Centre.
Factor in some of the finest basketball talent in WA, along with a development squad of future stars and new coaches... it’s safe to say that a whole lot of change is coming to Perth this season. The renaming of the team provides the ultimate chance to move forward; with a new-name, new-look and new-feel team ready for an action packed season with a difference.
Get on board and join us for the 2010/2011 season. It’s set to become the turning point for an exciting future and the dawn of a new era for women’s basketball in WA.
